VP of Finance – Madison, WI

The VP of Finance will provide the strategic and tactical leadership and direction regarding the financial activities of the organization. The VP of Finance is the key steward of the financial and physical assets and serves as a strategic partner in setting the vision and direction concerning the fiscal health of the organization. This position also provides leadership, guidance and direction to capital planning, financial planning, financial reporting, revenue cycle, accounting, reimbursement and operating entity support functions through a well aligned coordination with the respective functional leaders.

The VP of Finance has the overall responsibility of ensuring the financial integrity of the organization including development and execution of financial strategies, initiatives, systems and processes that optimize current and future performance. In addition, the VP of Finance works collaboratively with the senior leadership team and functional leaders in the achievement of organizational objectives. The VP of Finance also represents the organization with business, governmental and community leaders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance;

  • Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the Managing Partners and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities;

  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation;

  • Responsible for the implementation of Net Suite system across the organization;

  • Assures the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports and assures that the reports reliably reflect the financial position of the organization;

  • Assumes a lead role in analyzing and exploring means of reducing operating costs and increasing revenues based on knowledge of market trends, financial reports and operating procedures;

  • Responsible for direction and submission on a timely basis of all financial data associated reports required by government and other regulated agencies;

  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of functional leaders on financial issues impacting their budgets;

  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization;

  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position;

  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs;

  • Planning, reviewing, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor;

  • Analyzing data collected and recording results;

  • Analyzing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost;

  • Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs;

  • Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures;

  • Analyzing audits of costs and preparing reports;

  • Making estimates of new and proposed product costs;

  • Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services;

  • Assisting in Month end close of the General Ledger;

  • Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program;

  • Reconciles finished goods inventories;

  • Other duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Education, Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent. A CPA is strongly preferred as well as public accounting experience;

  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience or 10 years of industry and public accounting experience in finance and/or operational roles in the healthcare field;

  • Experience with a QuickBooks and/or Net Suite;

  • Must be progressive and capable of looking beyond traditional accounting functions to increase margins (pricing, cost controls) and assist with challenging operational decisions;

  • An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills;

  • Must understand how to motivate and inspire staff to achieve optimal results, while keeping employee satisfaction high;

  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to the senior leadership team and functional leaders;

  • Strong accounting acumen and have a proven track record of working effectively with the external audit firm.

  • Minimum of 2 solid years of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment, preferably ISO13485 environment;

  • Must have a strong cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles;

  • Computer Literate – Strong Excel skills and the ability to use Outlook and Word;

  • Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards.

*Must have 10 years of public accounting experience in finance and/or operational roles in the healthcare field.
