Optics Specialist - Madison, WI

Job Summary: Company is seeking an Optics Specialist to work in the Optics Department under our Diamond Turning’s managerial supervision. This position requires an individual who is organized, has excellent attention to detail, and has superb time management skills. The Optics Specialist will be responsible for our precision optics products following fabrication through shipment. This position will handle, clean, and conduct inspection of lenses and mirrors. The employee must be able to work with a team as well as independently. This position provides an opportunity to work with high tech equipment in a unique scientific environment. Each member of the small team should be excited for new and upcoming projects while balancing established tasks. This position will occasionally work collaboratively with engineers.


Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and clean optical mirrors in a timely and efficient manner (75 – 85%) Deburring threaded holes

  • Gently wiping down optical surface with CO2 and/or acetoneVisually inspect highly reflective optical mirrors for dents, scratches, and/or damaged sidings

  • Maintain packaging inventory levels

  • Follow customer specific packaging requirements and properly store Optics in warehouse

  • Review daily workload and prioritize accordingly

  • Communicate shipping status with Sales Administration and Production Planner

  • Coordinate shipment packaging for customer optics orders (10 – 15%)

  • Photograph contents of package prior to shipment

  • Enter inventory/shipping transactions in operating system

  • Follow customer specific shipping label requirements

  • Other duties as assigned


Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Must be detail oriented

• Ability to inspect small details on optical mirrors

• Excellent hand-eye coordination

• Good communication skills (verbal and written)

• Ability to lift 10 - 35 pounds

• Able to plan and manage workload accordingly

• Works well with others


Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

• Critical thinking and Technical knowledge

• Good understanding of quality control principles

• Experience in manufacturing is a plus


Education:

High school diploma or equivalent education

Salary

$16 to $17 an hour
